Autumn Term 2016
We are delving into the phizz-whizzing world of Roald Dahl this term! We've already read the underground dramas and adventures of the one and only Fantastic Mr Fox and we're now reading the disgusting tales of the gruesome twosome Twits! In Literacy, we're developing our vocabulary while squibbling detailed character and setting descriptions that paint the perfect picture in the reader's mind. We have also captured special dreams for our friends and loved ones.
In Numeracy, we are soaring through the Big Maths steps, learning new skills such as the column method in addition and subtraction, the grid method in multiplication and the bus-stop method in division. 3/4SB have a whoopsy whiffing 'can do' attitude and determination to get it right and love a good competition for signatures!
In science, we have been learning about reversible and irreversible changes (experimenting with chocolate, jelly and eggs) while in Geography we're brushing up on our Atlas skills and will be learning about grid references using Roald Dahl and Westcliffe as stimulus!
Excitingly, 3/4SB has been invited to take part in the Nutcracker project with The Royal Ballet! As part of the project the class have to choreograph a dance around the theme of magic. The class will be competing against dozens of schools from around the country as their finished piece will be filmed and sent in to be judged by members of the Royal Ballet*. The lucky victors will win a trip to London to watch the Nutcracker ballet at the famous Royal Opera House, home to The Royal Ballet! Inspired by our project, we will be researching and learning all about the theatre and the importance sets, props and costumes, as well as the characters, play in telling a story to an audience.
*parents and carers will receive letters for video consent in October.
