One day, William discovers that the tree outside his window has been sculpted into a wise owl. In the following days, more topiaries appear, and each one is more beautiful than the last. Soon, William's grey little town is full of colour and life. And though the mysterious night gardener disappears as suddenly as he appeared, William--and his town--are changed forever.
We have loved reading and studyingThe Night Gardener, by the Fan Brothers. Before we read the book as a class we examined the cover and blurb of the book. Using our Retrieving and Interpreting skills we predicted what the book was going to be about and posed some questions that we wanted to know. Here are a few of the questions we asked:
“Who designed the tree?” - Jayden
“Why does the Night Gardener garden at night?” - Sophie-May “Is the boy going to change the world?” - Zak
“Why has it formed as an owl?” - Sam
“Did the moon make the tree turn into an owl?” - William

As the term progresses we hope to produce a lot of writing about and inspired by The Night Gardener.
