Summer Term

This Summer term we have a new and exciting topic called ‘The Seaside’. We are launching this new topic with a fun afternoon of looking at different elements of the seaside, this will include things like ice creams, sand and Punch and Judy shows!

In Geography we will be looking at the different features of a seaside place and learning relevant vocabulary such as beach, sea and ocean. We will discuss the difference in physical and human features and look at aerial photographs to recognise landmarks and make simple maps.

In Art we will study the work of the artist Wanda Edwards. We will create our own seaside themed collages with different materials to create different effects.

In Science we will learn about different habitats and the living things that are found there. We will study the features of animals and plants that make them suitable for the habitats they live in.

In May the Year 2 children will sit the reading and maths SAT tests. In June the Year 1 children will complete the phonics check. If this applicable to your child please see the phonics pack that has been sent home.

In PE we will be covering the unit ‘Sending and Receiving’ in our indoor sessions. We will continue to work through the Purple Mash programme in computing and the Charanga programme in music.
