Westcliffe Primary School

'Our school is committed to inspirational teaching that develops aspirational young people.'

Welcome to 3/4B.

Our teacher this year is Miss Blades. Mrs Hunsley will also be helping us with our learning in the mornings.

Spring Term

This term our topic is ‘One boy, one bike, one dream…’ This follows the exciting, true story of Alastair Humphreys who unbelievably cycled around the world. This book follows his journey through the UK, then across Europe and Africa. This book will link directly into much of the writing the children will be creating this term, including missing book pages, stories and fact files. It will also lead into and feed many of the topics planned. We will be exploring the human and physical features of both Britain and France in geography, where we shall compare the two countries based on the information we gather. The children will also be trying their hand at block printing artwork inspired by Rachael Robinson-Elmer. They will use their new skills to create postcards of famous landmarks of England and France.

After half term, we will be focusing on Spring, the new life it brings as well as the scrumptious Pancake Day. We can’t wait to share much of what we will learn during this half term with you during our wonderful spring production.

We look forward to seeing you there!

A quick reminder that 3/4B's indoor PE will be on Wednesdays, however we ask the children to bring their PE kits in on a Monday and take them home on a Friday as our outdoor PE day can change each week depending on the weather.

Autumn Term

For the first few weeks in literacy we will be focusing on stories by the author Oliver Jeffers. We will be soaring through some of his stories about The Boy and following the adventures he goes on, then retelling his stories in our own words.
Later on in the term, we will delve deep into the world of Anglo-Saxons and Vikings for the autumn term topic ‘Let the Battle Commence’. This will see us use our history skills to explore the legendary battles and struggle for the control of England and our geography skills to learn where they came from and the reasons why they came. The children will be discovering the way these two societies lived and how they differ from the way we live today. We will also be using our art and design skills to recreate Viking artefacts.
This deems to be an extremely exciting term which we cannot wait to explore.

3/4B’s indoor P.E day is a Tuesday. We will also be swimming every Thursday until 7th November 2019.
