Welcome Dinosaur Detectives!
An amazing beginning to our summer term!
Mrs Barrett (the gardener) has discovered a mysterious bone while she was digging a new hole during the Easter break! We haven’t seen the bone (just the hole) because Mrs Barrett has sent it off to an expert. However, she described it as being far too big to be a human bone! She also said it looked ancient and brittle. This made us think… Could it possibly be a dinosaur bone?
In literacy, we will also be writing a letter to a dinosaur expert to get some advice about our discovery.
We thought the bone could be that of a T-Rex so we have chosen to learn more about it through our topic. Inspired by what we find, we will be designing our own fiendish creature that could have walked the earth 65 million years ago. Excitingly, we will use these ideas n D.T. to create a model using our knowledge of levers, so it will have moving parts!
When our designs are complete there will be the chance for parents and carers to help with the building process at school.
In maths, we are continuing to work really hard, ever ready for a new challenge! We will be using lots of facts and figures on different dinosaurs, which we discover as we detect our way through our topic, to build on our measuring, data and reasoning skills.
