Welcome to 34SB!

Welcome to 3/4 SB’s webpage! We are a lively and hardworking class who love to dive head first into our topics. In the autumn term we broadened our historical knowledge through the topic of Viking vs Saxons. Work included: writing a missing diary entry of a Saxon at sea and fact files on certain aspects of Viking life. Excitingly, in Design Technology we worked hard to produce model Viking boats using a detailed design booklet to guide us from design to creation. At the end of the term, we were able to showcase our efforts to parents. It was an incredibly interesting topic and visiting the Jorvik Viking Centre in York was the highlight of the term.

In the spring term we are covering the topic Animal Kingdom which the children are extremely engaged in and ecstatic to be learning about! It has inspired a lot of the class to create their own animal fact books, using our wonderful library, in their own time. Some children have even been studying and working hard at home - bringing in independent research! We have been able to produce some fantastic pieces of writing, working on setting and character description, while focusing on Biomes and the animals found within them in Science. We are now familiar with a classification key and use this to help us identify the animals we are researching for our animal fact files. 3/4SB has chosen the marine Biome to look at in more detail and we have been researching in depth: dolphins, seahorses and jellyfish.

In Numeracy, Miss Boyers expects a ‘can do’ philosophy from her children and welcomes children challenging themselves to try the next level. The children are developing fantastic attitudes during lesson time and are cultivating valuable strengths such as resilience and perseverance because they are learning that mistakes are ok as long as they push themselves to find out why they went wrong and try again.

In the second half of the term we are going to be looking at people who have inspired us and who are at the top in their field of work. To stay in keeping with our topic we are going to study the life of Sir David Attenborough, who has dedicated his life to bringing the natural world into our homes.
