Introduction to the Spring Term 2017

We are excited to get going on our new spring topic, What a Wonderful World. We have already started our new class reading book, The Firework Maker’s Daughter by Phillip Pullman. It’s about a courageous and determined young girl called Lila.

In literacy, we are using our class book to aid us in focussing on characters, discussing their personalities and strengths. We are also using the story to inspire our setting descriptions.

In geography, we decided to research volcanoes, just like Mount Merapi in Indonesia, which is featured in The Firework Maker’s Daughter.  We are using this knowledge in our D.T. where we have started to plan how to make a model volcano so we can make our very own. This project will also help our science when investigating irreversible changes.

In numeracy, we are continuing to stretch our brains as problem solvers and have recently been investigating angles! Just like Lila, we are hoping to show the strengths of determination, perseverance, courage and hard work through all our learning this term.
