Reading Stars

Reading Stars

Over the coming term, some Year 5 children have been invited to take part in a special project called reading stars. Run by the team at study parks, the project aims to encourage children to enjoy reading and to expose them to the wide ranges of materials they could read.  To engage the children this is all done by interweaving football and sport into the process.

The children taking part in this project were lucky enough to be invited to meet bestselling author Tom Palmer at Glanford Park in January. During this very exciting day, not only were they able to speak to Tom about his experiences but also go on a ghost tour of the stadium, meet some Scunthorpe United players but also take part in the football reading game, which led to a very exciting penalty shootout! Whilst several of our Westcliffe pupils were able to take part, it was Jay-Kirk who took the trophy home after scoring against a former professional, international goalkeeper. What an experience!

We hope that the many other exciting activities and trips planned for this project will continue to engage and exciting the children and will nurture a love of reading that will stay with them.
