Safeguarding - North Lincs Information Briefing

Safeguarding Children

Information Briefing

In North Lincolnshire, our One Family Approach aims to create a system that works for all children, young people and families as we work together. Our ambition is for children to be in their families, in their schools and in their communities.

Locally, we have a strong early help and safeguarding system. In this briefing we have brought together some key documents that practitioners, supervisors, managers and leaders across our partnership will be aware of. We would like you to re-familiarise yourself with these documents.

The Children’s MARS local arrangements fulfil our statutory responsibilities to safeguard children as set out in Working Together 2018.

The One Family Approach – Helping Children and Families in North Lincolnshire document 2020/24 sets out how services support children, young people and families to participate, build resilience and find resolutions for themselves online and in their networks and communities, to stay safe and independent of services. This includes a key role for the three statutory partners – Humberside Police, North Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group and North Lincolnshire Council – and other relevant partners in terms of how we safeguard and protect the welfare of children.

On our Children’s MARS website, there is a range of statutory and supplementary policies, procedures and guidance.  We would specifically draw your attention to and invite you to take a look at a number of key documents, as follows:

  • Improving Child Protection and Safeguarding Practice policy and procedure which outline the Children’s MARS arrangements for serious child safeguarding incidents, Rapid Reviews and Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews
  • Protocol for the Assessment of Injuries to Non-Mobile Babies and Children which covers the responsibilities of practitioners who may come into contact with babies and children who have sustained physical injuries
  • Escalation and Resolution policy and procedure which sets out what to do if you need to resolve differences of opinion in individual cases

Multi agency training is available as part of the Children’s MARS Education and Training Programme including e-workbooks and training presentations. In our resources section, you will find a number of toolkits and other information to use in your work or contact with children and families.

The Children’s MARS Board produces quarterly news updates which provide information on the work of the multi-agency partnership and updates on the work of the Children’s MARS Board itself. We also promote new training opportunities, resources for professionals, children and families along with information relating to events and conferences. If you wish to subscribe for Children’s MARS communications emails, please complete the communications sign up form.
