Westcliffe Primary School
'Our school is committed to inspirational teaching that develops aspirational young people.'
Welcome to spring term in Key Stage 1!
This term our topic is ‘Westcliffe with an e!’ We are going to be learning all about Westcliffe, Colorado in North America. We will look at the human and physical features of the town and surrounding area. Then we will use our learning from the autumn term to make comparisons between our Westcliff (the local area) and Westcliffe with an e (America).
In literacy we will continue following pathways focusing on a new book each term. We will be changing our lessons to have a bigger focus on handwriting, spelling and transcription. Already we have seen an improvement in some of the children’s presentation, hopefully you have noticed at home too.
Maths will continue looking at the four operations, focusing on written methods for addition and subtraction. We will develop our times table knowledge, time telling skills as well as learning within many other mathematical areas.
In science we will look at materials in the first half term, and then look at plants in the second.
As always, we remind you to please read at least 3 times a week with your child and encourage them to practise rockstars for at least 15 minutes a week or 3 sheets. Last term we only had 39% of Key Stage 1 attend the Pupil of the Week reward. This term we would love that percentage to be higher, please help your child to be eligible. Thank you.
Reminder that our PE days are Wednesdays.
Our Rockstar days are Thursdays.
