Welcome to Spring Term in Key Stage 1
We have a very busy term ahead learning all about the Humber Bridge. We will learn who built it, why it was built and the impact that it has had. Excitingly, we will be going to see the Humber Bridge in early March so the child can see the scale of it as well as sketch it as part of our art lesson.
In DT we will be learning how to thread a needle and tie a knot. We will then make a template so we can cut two pieces of fabric to join together with running stitch. For some of us this is going to take a lot of resilience, but by the end I’m sure we will be very proud of our work.
In literacy we are focused on journeys. We will start the term with a book called ‘Grandad’s Camper’ then the second book will be ‘My name is not refugee’. We will write a range of text types to help develop our writing.
In maths we will continue to develop our understanding of the four operations, and the year 2s will try to move away from cuisenaire rods to more formal written methods such as numberlines.
For homework we only ask that you read with your child 3 times a week and practise TTRockstars for 15 minutes (or 3 sides of the paper sheets which are always available at the front of the classroom). By completing this homework you will help your child progress in school. A huge thank you for doing this, it really does have an impact.
Our TTRockstar day is still Thursday, so please ensure practise is completed by then, this includes paper sheets.
Thank you
