Westcliffe Primary School

'Our school is committed to inspirational teaching that develops aspirational young people.'

1/2DT

Spring Term

This term we will be learning all about Westcliffe in Colorado. We will be finding out about it’s human and physical features and comparing to those that we have already learned about our local area earlier this year.

In art we will be learning about two artists, Cathie Cooper and Monet. We will be studying their landscape paintings and using them as inspiration to create our own artwork.

In science, we will be looking at materials and their properties. We will be using words to describe materials and finding out how materials are suited to their purpose.

Our indoor PE session will be on a Wednesday morning in the hall.  Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school every day, as our outdoor PE session may have to change due to weather conditions.

In music, we will be following the Charanga scheme and we will be learning a song called ‘In the Groove’ this half term.

We are really looking forward to this term and the learning adventures we will go on.

We are lucky that we have a lovely school library. Your child will be able to visit the library with Miss Nicholls every other week. The children will need to bring their book back two weeks later to change it and choose a new one. The library is open from 8.30 am every morning for you to visit with your child.

We are very excited to be starting to learn our times tables using TT Rockstars. We encourage you to use the app lots at home. Our TT Rockstars day will be Wednesday.

Your child can also help to earn their class an extra ten minutes playtime every week if their class wins the reading challenge – the class with the highest number of reads, wins!  Please make sure your child brings their Home School Diary into school every day so we can count their reads.  Diaries MUST be in school on a Friday so that they can be checked and signed and so that your child can earn credits and eligibility for the Pupil of the Week Reward.

Please look through your child’s Home School Diary for more general information, especially to find out how you and your child can make sure that they are eligible for the termly Pupil of the Week Reward. We hope to see your child there!
