Welcome to 1/2 DT!
This spring term year 1/2 have an exciting new topic called ‘The Humber Bridge’. Within our history lessons we will be finding out about how this amazing local landmark, the Humber Bridge, brought big changes to the local area over time and in our geography lessons we will be learning to use geographical vocabulary to talk about the Humber Bridge, its surrounding area and our own local area. We will look at the Humber Bridge more closely on different maps and we will also be taking a trip to the bridge to see it for ourselves.
We will be thinking about bridges in our art work this term, too, within our printing work. We will look at different bridges and talk about the common shapes that we see and use these shapes to think about how we can recreate them in our own work when printing.
In DT we will be thinking about how to construct a successful bridge of our own, using what we have learnt in both our science lessons and our art lessons to guide our thoughts.
In science we will be learning about materials, how we would describe their properties and what they would be useful and suitable for because of these properties.
In RE we will be studying the Lincolnshire RE syllabus and we will learn about the religion of Christianity.
In PE we will be covering the gymnastics unit called ‘Flight’ in our indoor sessions.
We will continue to work through the Purple Mash programme in computing and the Charanga programme in music.
