Autumn Term 2021
Welcome to 5/6B's class page.
This term, we will be stepping back in time to World War Two. As historians, we will be investigating the impact the war had on Britain and its citizens. We will be exploring many aspects of the war, including the Blitz, food rationing and the reasons and effect of evacuating children. As we move through the topic, there will be many writing opportunities, from diaries to information texts. As geographers, we will be looking at how the war impacted the land, the world and who was involved on both sides. We are excited to be going to Eden Camp for our school trip, which will finish off our topic nicely.
In numeracy, we will be broadening our knowledge of place value, through reasoning and problem solving and consolidating our knowledge of the four operations.
Our Harvest festival will soon be upon us, where will be collecting again for Scunthorpe Food Bank. If you have any food to donate that would be wonderful. They have asked us to mention that they don’t need baked beans or dried pasta as the food bank is swamped with those items. A full list of what they are in short supply of will be sent out nearer the time.
Our PE days will often change in order to accommodate sessions with Scunthorpe United (or the wonderful British weather), so we ask you to bring PE kits in on Monday and leave them all week. We will still be doing both indoor and outdoor PE, so outdoor trainers and indoor shoes (or bare feet) are still required. When the wintery days set in children can bring in a plain tracksuit top or sweatshirt and jogging bottoms/tracksuit for outdoor PE.
We also ask that reading diaries and books be brought in every day please so that, if possible, a member of staff can read the book with your child.
